Energiewende – an Herculean task

The purpose of our initial approach today is to convey the message to you that energy system transformation is not only affordable: it is actually the greatest global business opportunity available at the present time.

Now that, in our view, the fundamental problem of financing has been resolved, the next issue to be addressed is technical implementation. Solutions to a number of key technical problems have, by and large, already been found. First and foremost, the use of the two most important new energy sources, wind and solar, is now becoming economically viable thanks to the development of production technology.

But there are still some key problems to solve before our journey ends. At the top of the page, we have identified what we regard as the major research and development problems.
